THE HISTORY OF B.C.C.O.M IN SQUAMISH In June 1987, when the Area Rep program started Squamish was one of the original areas and our Rep was one of the first to volunteer. The area encompasses Horseshoe Bay north to Pemberton, back in 1988 the Rep organized the first annual Sea to Sky Barbeque and it has been an annual event for 8 years. The Squamish area boasts the highest membership per capita in B.C. and some of the most exciting roads for motorcycling.
We also designed the original logo for the member to wear and the support decal. We are the only area that is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and we put a BCCOM booth in the Sea to Sky Trade Fair each year. In 1990 at one of our monthly meetings, members who attended other toy runs, voted to establish our own, a "look after our own backyard too " sort of attitude. The Rep went organizational and the Squamish Toy Run was born, another first, this toy run has happened every year since giving a big boost to the local Community Christmas Care program. It became a pinned event the second year with the pin designed here and donated by BCCOM . In 1996 another event became annual, Squamish members meet every year to take Easter Seal kids for motorcycle rides at the Squamish Lions Easter Seal Camp. In 1997 the 10th anniversary of BCCOM-Squamish, the Coalmont Anniversary Run was established and is also a S.A.M. annual event. All of these accomplishments are made possibly by the members who believe in the Coalition cause and are willing to work to further it. BCCOM is well known and respected in the Sea to Sky Corridor due to the positive efforts of the local membership.
Our Area membership is made up of many people from many walks of life, all these members are residents who work and pay taxes like everyone else, they just happen to have different beliefs and priorities but they don't turn their backs in times of need. They are known to stop and assist on our highways, if a "biker" helps you out one day and hands you a card, read it before you toss it, and forget the cars who didn't stop. Not the motorcyclist who did.
